I have a large family, which translates to a large amount of waste. So far this compactor has withstood the onslaught. Also, stainless is easy to keep clean. Only downside is how expensive it was.

We just got done with the kitchen remodeling and we must say this trash compactor looks beautiful next to all of the other new appliances (Samsung). The sound and ease of operating makes this a great buy for any home remodeling.

I was hoping for better. I paid several hundred dollars extra to get a Kitchenaid. I could have gotten the Whirpool which was cheaper but had terrible reviews. Was I wrong. I found out that following the acquisition several years ago Kitchenaid is now owned by Whirlpool and the machines are manufactured by Whirlpool. All I can say is the quality is Terrible. The frame appears to have been assembled incorrectly, the alignment is awful and it whole unit is junk!
Stay away from these Companies. Don't pay $1300. for a piece of garbage. I'm very worried that if they agree to replace the unit the next one will be even worse.

This unit is much smaller that what I had before, it isn't supplied with much direction for use. Closing is LOUD and the start feature is hidden and difficult to reach... should be on top of the unit

i PURHCHASE LAST WEEK AND I WAS DISAPPOINTED OF THE NOISE MADE BY THE THE KICK BAR THAT OPENS THE COMPACTOR,, JUST A CHEAP SOUNDING PLASTIC NOISE WHEN I CLOSE THE DOOR. IT DOES NOT AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE COMPACTOR, JUST REALLY SOUNDS CHEAP AND WE PAID A LOT FOR IT.. I HAD THE WARRANTY SERVICE LOOK A IT AND THEY SAID THAT IS JUST THE WAY THEY ARE MADE,, THEY ALSO SAID i COULD REMOVE THE BAR AND THAT WOULD TAKE CAR OF THE NOISE,, I DID NOT DO THAT I WILL JUST LIVE WITH THE NOISE,, HAS ANYONE ELSE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS.. I PURCHASE THIS COMPACTOR TO MATCH ALL OF MY KITCHEN AIDE APPLIANCES AND IT REPLACED THE SAME COMPACTOR

This is the second Kitchen Aid compactor. I love that it compacts so well. My first one had the controls on the exterior. This one looks nice, but there is a huge handle and for someone unfamiliar with trash compactors your first inclination would be to open it with the handle not the foot pedal. I'm not sure if pulling on the handle will eventually damage anything.

We replaced our 15+ year old Kitchenaid compactor. Very easy, push-pull. Works great. I really like the new foot pedal compaction trigger versus the older dial. This time, we went with Kitchenaid compactor bags to prevent stuff spilling over the sides of the bag. Works great and well worth it.

I recently replaced all of the built in kitchen appliances in my home as part of a remodel. Out with the 15 year old Sub Zero, Bosch, Wolf and in with an entirely new suite of Kitchenaid. Half the price of the high end brands, but equal the quality and no issues ever with getting parts or repairs done. Kitchenaid is the right combination of quality, esthetics and value!

I purchased this compactor to use as my recycle container as its a long walk to the garage to take things out there. I was replacing my 20 year old one that I used the same way. It worked fine, I was just changing to all stainless appliances. it's works great for that use for me.

My first Kitchenaid trash compactor lasted 34 years! I wouldn't have consider anything else. I love the new desisgn, incliding the comactor lockdown position. Kitchenaid products have always been top pf the line in my opinion. Thank you Kitchenaid for your quality work!

Trash Compactor. I always thought they were just a waste of a product. Then we bought a house that had one. It broke and we needed to replace it. These are special orders. The first one was damaged from shipping. So had to re order a new one. During the down time about eight weeks we realized how much we actually liked having one and finally the new one came and we reinstalled it ourselves better than the one that came with the house new. If we ever move we will make sure the house has one. It is just a door open away from properly disposing garbage. KitchenAid makes the best one as this is the second one.

I had my KichenAid compactor for 17 years before it needed replacing. My home warranty company wanted to replace it with another cheaper brand. I paid an additional $380 upgrade to get my KitchenAid compactor, and I don't regret my decision. I love my new compactor, it's so nice.

There are several issues.
First, the requirement that the drawer be lifted to close and open is inconvenient. I realize that the lifting can be accomplished by stepping on the foot control, but it's just not as convenient as my last unit. This operation is also questionable because of the additional force required to close the drawer resulting in additional stress on the mounting hardware over time.
Second, the location of the compaction and fan controls is inconvenient. Why they aren't located on a front panel and not "behind closed doors" is puzzling. If this is a "safety" design, I give it a fail on the "ease of use" design.
Third, the use of a pedal control is puzzling. I've asked several family members and not one liked it. Neither do I. This is like a throwback to the times when a floorboard switch was used for the high beams on the car.
I bought this appliance based on name-brand confidence. If I'd looked beforehand I would probably have bought another design.

Door seems loose. Wiggles easily side-to-side. Wish it had a more firm and steady feel. I'm not crazy about the small pedal to activate the compactor. A bit hard to hit with the foot since its so close to our island cabinet trim.
