LED light quit working

Purchased about a year ago and the LED light quit working on the first number on top, so the 7 looks like a 1. I guess appliances these days are built to last a couple years!

This is about a month old. We use it every day. Does a great job, but there are a couple negative features. It is not the print free stainless, so every touch shows. Also our space to put it in was 27", and so the choices were smaller. Opening like a book is much better, but my choice for matching the oven were small. I'm not as tall as it's position and so hard for me to get things out. It could be a problem, but does a fine job. In a lower position it would be better for me. I recommend with reservations.

We bought this same microwave in 2006, as part of a major Kitchen Remodel. It was expensive at that time, but it fit the design perfectly. Here we are, 13 years later, and it's now starting to show some signs of failure. It's still usable, but the sensor cooking isn't really functioning correctly. We'll probably replace it with the exact same model again. I wonder if it's still made in Sweeden!

Over 5 weeks ago I purchased a KitchenAid oven and separate microwave. I was first told my oven was in but microwave would not be in until 11/4. On11/4 I get a call from Lowe's that now my microwave won't be available until 11/30. Whirlpool makes KitchenAid. Now I am contemplating canceling my $3500 order. I called KitchenAid and they said they could not help and call the store(Lowe's). They have sunken to new lows. Why buy American if they can't provide what you buy. All complacent people.

I bought this microwave for a complete kitchen remodel at Best Buy during the Summer of 2018. Already the first digital number does not display correctly sometimes. Also, it's not as powerful as it advertises. Anyone else have the same problem with the display? I wonder if the motherboard is starting to malfunction already.

The microwave was installed five months ago and we have had to have it repaired already an it is still not perfect. If the door is not closed tightly, it grinds and does not heat properly. Not sure if it is this model or individual unit itself. If it worked 100%, I would highly recommend this model for the drop down door.

Microwave needs repair after 1 year 8 month
Indy Sue
8/16/2019
I purchased this microwave 1 yr. and 8 months ago for a new construction home and it won't heat. I have called Kitchenaid's customer service line 3 times to try and get some resolution and nothing other than offering to provide a $30 part and that has to be repaired by an authorized repair company. I paid a pretty penny for the microwave thinking I was getting a quality manufactured appliance; boy was I wrong. Technician said it is the door sensor and the microwave thinks the door is open so it won't heat. Services call is $100 and part needs ordered so another day off work and $100 estimated repair fee for a total of $200 on an expensive microwave. You advertise Kitchenaid products to be premium appliances yet the only thing premium about your products is the price. Dissatisfied customer and will not purchase Whirlpool products again. Thanks for the hassle.

Excellent High End Quality at a Value Price
VintageFlyBoy64

I recently redid my kitchen appliances. The old were high end Wolf, Sub-Zero, Bosch, etc. Having experience with Kitchenaid I can't think of a better combination of price, quality, esthetics and performance. My suite of Kitchenaid appliances are 1/2 the price of comparable replacements from the previously mentioned brands. Kitchenaid is the right solution when price and quality both matter for your built in suite of appliances.

We had a couple of appliances go out and decided to change brands to KitchenAid. This microwave fit perfectly where our old one was (built in). I was worried about it fitting but it came with two different sizes of trim to cover any extra space. Most companies charge an astronomical amount for this piece. Thank you KitchenAid for caring about my sanity and providing it. Lol.
This microwave has a button that you push to reheat a plate of food and it senses when it is done. I absolutely LOVE this button because IT WORKS. It is sized perfectly and isn't loud at all.
We recently purchased a dishwasher and will soon be getting the oven (mine isn't even on the fritz but if the oven works as well as the microwave, I am sold). After that will be the fridge.
Gorgeous appliance (never thought I'd say that about a microwave!!).

I have this installed over our new KitchenAid 30" oven, and it looks fantastic. I'm sort of enjoying the dial instead of a number pad, but I do miss the simple "Vegetable" button our previous microwave had. That micro did not care about the volume of vegetables we were steaming, but this one does. Maybe I just need to get used to this one. It was pricey, but we wanted the look.

Bought this as part of the Kitchen Aid suite for our remodeled kitchen. Love the look of the microwave, however, anyone purchasing this design should be mindful of how the door opens like an oven. For someone shorter, it could be an awful height and very awkward to get things into and out of the oven. Luckily our contractor was able to finagle lowering it within the context of our layout. I did not give it 5 stars because of the stainless steal exterior that does NOT ever look shiny and non-streaky. (same with the other items purchased) It's like a cheap stainless that streaks no matter what product or soft cloth I use - and I've purchased many of both. Help Kichen Aid, my EXPENSIVE products look CHEAP. Very disapointing to see the quality of these high-end items going downhill.

Bought with oven and love the change it made in my kitchen. I have three issues that would have made it 6 stars. 1. Stainless is notorious for fingerprints. It would nice to include a sample of a recommended cleaner. 2. The light while cooking is extremely dim behind the mesh embedded in the door. I really cannot see anything inside with the light on. 3. This is a nit, but the stickers on the inside of my door with serial number and usage directions are applied crooked. It's obviously not an issue with the way it works, but it's such a gorgeous appliance that this lack of attention to detail is extremely noticeable. Despite this, I would still recommend this microwave oven.

Due to Returns-Had 2 Microwaves,3rd req. Repair

Our first built-in KitchenAid failed, but it was 14 years old so it was expected. Since we like the first one so much we decided to purchase it again. We decided to lower it and build new cabinets, according to the microwaves dimensions, so we were committed to the KitchenAid. We purchased our first one from Colders and had to wait three weeks. When it arrived there were machining imperfections in the stainless steel (a couple of lumps in the stainless) which were quite noticeable. Also the glass plate was cracked and the gray plastic holder of the plate was broke into 3 pieces. We returned it to colders and they ordered a 2nd one for which we had to wait another 3 weeks. We went to pick it up, Colders unpacked the microwave, and again there were machining imperfections; however although on the same part, but in different spots. Colder's told it that it's not worth ordering another since we probably would have the same problem. Since we rebuilt the cabinet for the Kitchenaide we decided to purchase it from a different store thinking maybe we might eliminate the machining error. We waited another three weeks and finally got one without the imperfections. Again we waited another 3.5 weeks for our microwave. I had the microwave worked fine until a week later when I wanted to use the one-touch baked potatoe feature. That did not work. We got an error message. So we were told we had to call a kitchenaide appliance repair service and was told by them, according to the error message, a new sensor (we had never used it) and a harness was needed, they had to wait for the parts and we were scheduled almost 4 weeks out. After the problem with the first microwave we ran to Walmart to pick up a small counter-top microwave for which we paid $55.00. It has close to the same features as the KitchenAide and works like a champ unlike the $1,300 built-in Kitchenaide. We have great concerns that the Kitchenaide will malfunction again and then not be under warranty. Buyer Beware!!!

Already Dead After 18 months
Cliff99

The microwave is dead, just hums, we have had it for 18 months and now it is going to cost $500 to repair. This is soooo sad. Also, the fridge came from the factory not completely assembled. Can't wait to see what is going to break next after the $13,000 I spent on these appliances :( Don't tell me I needed to buy an extended warranty. For this price you would think the products would last at least 10 years. The non-Kitchaid appliance package that was in before lasted 15 years.

So far, so good! This is a beautiful microwave and has most of the necessary features. I would like a setting to soften butter, and I wish the interior light was a bit brighter. CK2275

I bought this at a local Best Buy/Pacific Sales to replace a previous kitchen aid counter top to built in conversion. First the good stuff. The appearance is very nice and the operation is also very nice. Overall I am extremely happy. Now for the gripes which are really meant to be about product improvement.
First the lighting on the inside. It has been said before that the interior lighting is poor. While this is true, the light does seem to shine directly on what is cooking to give an almost a theatrical effect. Still, I wish the interior light was brighter.
Second, no timer. I was completely unaware that this unit did not have a timer. Even after my last microwave broke, I still used the timer. Now I just have a magnetic timer on the unit but it baffles me why the unit would not have a timer.
Third, install quirks. I installed the unit myself and it went pretty smoothly. The instructions state that when drilling holes into the cabinet to secure the microwave, that these should be 5/32" holes. Most cabinetry is pretty dense if it is real wood. The instructions should have specified 3/16". I broke my Craftsman T10 Torx screwdriver putting this in and had to remove and substitute for a normal Phillips after slightly enlarging the pilot hole. That brings me to the next point. Why did they specify Torx screws? I did have a Torx set but not for my power drill/screwdriver which made me have to do this by hand which was made more difficult when they spec'd a drill bit that was too small. Lastly, once I got the microwave mounted to the cabinet and I put on the outer panels, one of the pre-drilled holes in the panel was stripped and could not accommodate the included Torx screw. I had to find a slightly upsized screw to place in the hole but the way that the mounting hole was manufactured seemed rather cheap and this caused the panel on the left not to mount uniformly as it is on the right. When you pay $1500 for a microwave, you should not have to deal with these things.

We originally bought this microwave 2 years ago. It worked approximately 6 months out of the 2 years we owned it. Lowes finally reimbursed us for the cost under their Lemon Policy (we had the extended service policy). Silly me buys the exact same microwave because it matched all of our other KA appliances. And of course I thought "no way could this happen twice". Guess what - the new one failed after 30 days of use. KA, what is going on?! This is not a cheap microwave....

Replaced a built-in microwave with this model. Easy to use but it doesn't have a timer that you can use without cooking. Had that on the last KitchenAid over-the-cooktop model and really miss it. Love the door which pulls down but it doesn't pull down all the way to be level and flat, which impedes placing items in the microwave or taking them out easily. And why does a built-in microwave have to cost SO much more than one mounted above a cooktop??

Built a house and this microwave was installed. With the drop down door it is not the best for a built-in microwave as the door gets in your way with it being a little bit high in the Cabinetry. We have had problems and had to have the repairman come out and we'll probably have to have him come out again. Also there is not a timer (for side use) built into the microwave.

You would be better off buying a $90 microwave. This take at least three times as long to heat anything, the interior light is so dim as to be completely ineffective, and the pull down door make it difficult to access and clean. My husband and I are astounded by just how completely useless this product is, after being lifelong KitchenAid fans!

This was supposed to be a 1000 watt model. My 1 cup heating water tests show this is closer to 500 watts output. Basically all heating times are doubled from my old 10 year old kenmore. I think magnetron was bad from the start and needs replacement. this shows really bad quality control given the lack of performance from unit.

Motherboard failed in less than 3years of low use
GlennB

I foolishly purchased this premium Microwave because of what was presented as it's substantial construction and high quality. It has been in use 2 + years and was manufactured in August 2015. In September 2018 after behaving strangely for a couple months, it suffered a complete failure. Not even an interior light left of a $1500 item and well out of warranty. Service tech said the main circuit board containing the ICU has failed and a replacement was not readily available. Said Kitchen Aid is only obligated to have parts available for 2 years. If a new board can't be found, I will have to remodel the kitchen cabinets or buy another one of these pieces of junk. Buyer Beware!!!!!

I bought this because it matches my kitchen. It seems to take a long time to reheat food. I read the instruction manual but did not "study" it hard. Just seems like some less expensive microwaves blast your food much faster. I am going to study up to see that I am not missing something. I would buy it again for the looks.
